Remove the electric starter motor. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Electric Starter Motor - Remove".
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.

Remove plug (3). Use Tooling (C) to rotate the flywheel in order to remove bolts (6) through flywheel housing (1). Remove bolts (6).
Remove gasket (7).
Remove gasket (8) and flywheel housing adapter (1) from flywheel housing (2).
Remove bolts (5) and remove flex plates (4) from the flywheel.

Install Tooling (A) on flywheel (10). Use a suitable lifting device. The weight of flywheel (10) is approximately 35 kg (77 lb).
Remove two bolts (9). Install Tooling (B).
Remove remaining bolts (9). Remove flywheel (10).

Use a hammer and a punch in order to remove pilot bushing (12) from flywheel (10).
Use a hammer and a punch in order to remove ring gear (11) from flywheel (10). Installation Procedure

Illustration 4 g01065195Note: Ring gear (11) must be installed with the chamfered side of the teeth upward. The chamfered side of the gear teeth will be facing toward the starting motor when flywheel (10) is installed.
Raise the temperature of ring gear (11) to a maximum temperature of 316 °C (600 °F). Install ring gear (11) on flywheel (10).
Use Tooling (D) to install pilot bushing (12) in flywheel (10).

Install Tooling (B) in the crankshaft.
Install Tooling (A) on flywheel (10). Use a suitable lifting device. The weight of flywheel (10) is approximately 35 kg (77 lb). Position flywheel (10) on the crankshaft.
Apply clean engine oil to the threads of bolts (9).
Install bolts (9). Remove Tooling (B). Install bolts (9) in place of Tooling (B).
Tighten bolts (9) to a torque of 272 27 N m (200 20 lb ft).
Remove Tooling (A) from flywheel (10).
Check the flywheel runout. Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Flywheel - Inspect".

Position flex plate (4) and install bolts (5). Tighten bolts (5) to a torque of 143 13 N m (105 10 lb ft).
Install gasket (8), flywheel housing adapter (1), and gasket (7) on flywheel housing (2).
Align Tooling (E) with flex plate (4) and flywheel (10), and flywheel housing (2).
Remove Tooling (E) and install bolt (6). Tighten bolt (6) to a torque of 143 13 N m (105 10 lb ft).
Use Tooling (C) to rotate flywheel (10) in order to install remaining bolts (6) through flywheel housing (2). Tighten bolts (6) to a torque of 143 13 N m (105 10
