Disassembly Procedure
Start By:
Remove the relief valve (torque converter outlet). Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Relief Valve (Torque Converter Outlet) - Remove". Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before the disassembly procedure, the exterior of the component should be thoroughly cleaned. This will help to prevent dirt from entering the internal mechanism.

Position relief valve (1) onto a suitable work bench.
Remove dust cap (3) from nipple assembly (2). Remove nipple assembly (2) and the O-ring seal from relief valve (1).
If necessary, remove the plugs and the O-ring seals from relief valve (1).

Personal injury can result from being struck by parts propelled by a released spring force.Make sure to wear all necessary protective equipment.Follow the recommended procedure and use all recommended tooling to release the spring force.
Slowly remove two bolts (4) and the lock washers. Remove cover (5) and the O-ring seal from relief valve (1).

Remove relief spool (6), spacers (7), and spring (8) from relief valve (1).

Use a screwdriver to remove retaining ring (9), retainer (10), spring (11), and poppet (12) from relief spool (6).
