Checking the Belt Tension
Open the engine access panel and lock the engine access panel in the open position.
Remove the guard underneath the engine.
Check the belt for wear and cracking.
Check the belt tension.Apply 98 N (22 lb) of force midway between the pulleys. A correctly adjusted belt will deflect 10 to 12 mm (0.4 to 0.5 inch).If a new belt is installed, check the belt tension after installation and check the belt tension after thirty minutes of operation.Adjusting the Belt Tension
While you are under the machine, loosen the alternator mounting bolt.
Easier access can be gained by removing the seat.
Remove the access cover that is located behind the operator's seat.
Loosen the alternator adjusting bracket bolt.
Move the alternator forward or backward in order to attain the correct adjustment.
Tighten the bracket bolt and tighten the mounting bolt.
Check the tension of the belt.
Close the engine access panel.
Replace the access cover that is located behind the operator's seat.
Reinstall the seat.
Install the guard that is located under the engine.
