(12) Hydraulic motor The final drives are a combination of single gear reduction and of a planetary gear system.The final drives transmit the power from the drive motors to the tracks. The splines at the end of the shaft on the drive motor are connected to the splines of input shaft (11).The rotation of hydraulic drive motor (12) will cause the input shaft (11) to transmit power through the final drives. Input shaft (11) turns bull gear (10). Bull gear (10) causes sun gear (6) to turn. Ring gear (4) is held stationary. Movement of sun gear shaft (6) causes planetary gears (7) to move around inside ring gear (4). Rotation of planetary gears (7) causes planetary carrier (5) and sprocket hub (8) to turn. Sprocket segments, which are connected to sprocket hub (8), then drive the track.There are two cavities in the final drive that require lubrication. There is a fill port in planetary carrier (5). When lubricant is supplied through this fill port, the lubricant can fill both cavities. If the lubricant must be removed from these cavities, there are two separate drain plugs. One drain plug is in planetary carrier (5). In order to drain the cavity, the planetary carrier must be oriented with the drain plug at the bottom. The other cavity can be drained through a drain plug in the bottom of final drive case (9).

(19) Piston Brake housing (1) is mounted directly to the final drive case. The splines on the outside diameter of input shaft (11) are connected to driven plates (15) of brake housing (1). The drive motors have splined output shafts that connect to the internal splines of input shaft (11).
Brakes must be fully disengaged when the tractor is towed. If the brakes are partially engaged, the brakes overheat.
Note: The brakes are not normally used to stop the machine. Only use the brakes to stop the machine in emergencies.Machine movement is stopped dynamically by the application of equal pressure in both supply lines to the drive motors.When the machine comes to a full stop, the brakes are applied in order to hold the machine. When the brakes are applied, spring (13) pushes on plate (17). The spring pressure against plate (17) holds discs (14) and plates (15) together.When the brakes are released, oil pressure to the brake moves piston (19). Piston (19) and lock ring (18) pull plate (17) away from discs (14) and from plates (15). This occurs against the force of spring (13).When the oil pressure overrides the spring force that holds the discs and plates together, the input shaft and the pinion are free to turn when the drive motor turns.
