Which Generate This Code:The CID 3476 FMI 09 diagnostic code is associated with "Left Rear Inner Tire Pressure" sensor. The FMI 09 diagnostic code means that the ECM is unable to communicate with the pressure sensor. The frequency, pulse width, or period from the sensor is abnormal. The pressure sensor sends a wireless signal to the Tire Monitoring Module. The Chassis ECM monitors the condition of the pressure sensors via a data link connection to the Tire Monitoring Module.Note: After replacing a tire, reset the monitoring system to determine the location and the identity code of each tire pressure sensor on the truck. Each sensor has a unique code used to identify the sensor and specify the location of the sensor. If the tire monitor system is not reset, the Chassis ECM will initialize the FMI 09 diagnostic code. The diagnostic code is initialized 35 minutes after the truck is returned to service. See System Operation, Test and Adjust Manual, KENR9295 for instructions on identifying the tire sensors.Note: For all of the procedures below, connect a laptop with the latest version of Cat ET to the truck to monitor diagnostic codes.Test Step 1. CHECK FOR BUILD UP AROUND THE SENSORSNote: If the soil at the worksite contains a large percentage of metals, the metals may interfere with the signal from the sensors. As the soil collects around the sensor, the metals in the soil can interfere with the wireless signal from the sensor.
Turn the disconnect switch and the starter keyswitch for the truck to the "OFF" position.
Locate the "Left Rear Inner Tire Pressure" sensor and remove any excessive buildup of debris (soil) from around the unit.
Turn the disconnect switch and the starter keyswitch for the truck to the "ON" position.
Observe "Cat" ET for 5 minutes to see if the diagnostic code is present.Expected Result:The CID 3476 FMI 09 diagnostic code is no longer present.Results:
OK - The CID 3476 FMI 09 diagnostic code is no longer present.STOP

Turn the keyswitch of the truck to the ON position.
Check the Cat ET monitoring program for multiple FMI 09 diagnostic codes related to the tire pressure sensors.Note: The tire monitoring module requests a signal from the sensors every 5 minutes.Expected Result:The CID 3476 FMI 09 diagnostic code is the only active code related to tire pressure monitoring.Results:
OK - The CID 3476 FMI 09 diagnostic code is the only active code related to tire pressure monitoring. The tire pressure sensors are sealed. The tire pressure sensors cannot be opened or serviced.Repair: Replace the sensor. Reset the Tire Monitoring System after the sensor has been replaced.
