Engine start switch (1) is located on the left side of the instrument panel. The engine start switch has four positions.

Glow Plug (2) - Turn the engine start switch key counterclockwise to the GLOW PLUG position in order to activate the glow plug. If the engine does not start and the ambient conditions are below 0 °C (32 °F), complete the following steps:
Turn the engine start switch key counterclockwise to the GLOW PLUG position.
Activate the glow plug for 15 seconds.
Turn the engine start switch key clockwise to the START position. Follow the procedure for the START position.Note: Do not crank the engine for more than 30 seconds. Allow the starting motor to cool for two minutes before cranking again.
OFF (3) - When you insert the engine start switch key and when you remove the engine start switch key, the engine start switch key must be in the OFF position. Also, turn the engine start switch key to the OFF position in order to stop the engine.
ON (4) - Turn the engine start switch key clockwise to the ON position in order to activate all electrical circuits except the starter motor circuit. The following indicator lamps will be illuminated:
Engine Oil Pressure
Charging System
Parking Brake Engaged
Power Steering Pressure (TUV)
Service Brake PressureNote: The lamp for the engine oil pressure, the lamp for the charging system and the lamp for the parking brake engaged are located on the dash panel. The lamp for the power steering pressure and the lamp for the service brake pressure are located in the switch controls on the left side of the dash panel.
START (5) - To start the engine, turn the engine start switch key clockwise to the START position. When the engine start switch key is released, the engine start switch key will return to the ON position. Note: Do not crank the engine for more than 30 seconds. If the engine fails to start, return the engine start switch key to the OFF position. This must be done before you attempt to start the engine again.Note: Allow the starting motor to cool for two minutes before cranking again.
