Wastegate Components (1) Travel rod (2) Jam nut (3) Rod end (4) E-clip and washer (5) Valve shaft crank
Verify that the valve is in the fully closed position and there is no supply pressure to the actuator.
Loosen jam nut (2) off rod end (3). Thread the jam nut to the end of the threaded portion of travel rod (1) .
Connect regulated air pressure to the wastegate actuator. Apply a paint mark on the wastegate as a position reference.
Slowly apply air pressure to the actuator until the rod end begins to move. If rod end travel begins at approximately 276 kPa (40 psi), proceed to step 11.
Using a flat head screwdriver, remove e-clip (4) and washer from the rod end.
With the actuator pressurized, gently remove the rod end from valve shaft crank (5). Rotate the crank down away from the rod end.
Rotate the rod end up the travel rod threads to increase the crack opening pressure. Opening pressure increases 10.3 kPa (1.5 psi) for every revolution of the rod end towards the actuator.
After the desired adjustment has been obtained, rotate the crank to the rod end and reattach the components.
Place the washer and e-clip back onto the crank. Secure the e-clip into the groove on the crank with a pair of needle nose pliers.
Shut off the air pressure to the actuator.
Remove air pressure from the actuator. Verify that the valve is in the fully closed position. Tighten the jam nut against the rod end with a half inch wrench.
Confirm proper operation of the wastegate after adjustment. Slowly apply air to the actuator to extend the travel rod. The rod should start to rotate the butterfly shaft at 276 kPa (40 psi).Note: If the truck experiences an E1044 High Intake Manifold Pressure code in operation, refer to Troubleshooting, KENR5398. If this troubleshooting procedure does not resolve the code, cracking pressure can be reduced to correct the problem. Follow the adjustment procedure described above to set the wastegate to the desired cracking pressure.
