Removal Procedure
Start By:
Lower the middle crankcase guard. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Crankcase Guard - Lower and Raise". Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before the disassembly procedure, the exterior of the component should be thoroughly cleaned. This will help to prevent dirt from entering the internal mechanism.Note: Put identification marks on all lines, on all hoses, on all wires, and on all tubes for installation purposes. Plug all lines, hoses, and tubes. This helps to prevent fluid loss and this helps to keep contaminants from entering the system.
Turn the battery disconnect switch to the OFF position.

Remove nut (3). Disconnect harness assemblies (1). Remove cable assembly (2).

Remove nut (6). Disconnect cable assembly (4). Remove nut (5). Disconnect cable assembly (7). Disconnect harness assembly (8).

Attach a suitable lifting device to electric starting motor (8). The weight of electric starting motor (8) is approximately 36 kg (80 lb). Remove bolts (9). Remove electric starting motor (8). Installation Procedure
Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before assembly, all parts should be thoroughly cleaned in cleaning fluid. Allow the parts to air dry. Wiping cloths or rags should not be used to dry parts. Lint may be deposited on the parts which may cause later trouble. Inspect all parts. If any parts are worn or damaged, use new parts for replacement.

Attach a suitable lifting device to electric starting motor (8). The weight of electric starting motor (8) is approximately 36 kg (80 lb). Position electric starting motor (8). Install bolts (9).

Position cable assembly (4) and install nut (6). Tighten nut (6) to a torque of 2.25 0.25 N m (20 2 lb in). Position cable assembly (7). Position harness assembly (8). Install nut (5). Tighten nut (5) to a torque of 31 4 N m (23 3 lb ft).

Position harness assembly (1). Position harness assembly (2) and install nut (3). Tighten nut (3) to a torque of 32 4 N m (23 3 lb ft).
Turn the battery disconnect switch to the ON position. End By:
Raise the middle crankcase guard. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Crankcase Guard - Lower and Raise".
