Description of Change: After the final paint, the engine undergoes a process. The process occurs prior to shipping and the process reduces the possibility of rust.Adaptable To: The change is adaptable to all new marine engine installations. The engine crankcase receives a mixture of Volatile Corrosion Inhibitor (VCI) and engine oil at fill time. The engine is then rotated and an additional amount of VCI and engine oil are sprayed into the port for the turbocharger inlet and into the port for the turbocharger exhaust. After the process, the engine is shipped to the dealers. The dealer installs the engine into the vessel.Upon initial start-up of the engine, there may be some smoke from the exhaust, oil leakage from the inlet piping, or oil leakage from the outlet piping. The smoke will disperse after a short idling period. The excess oil should be wiped from the engine piping.Note: The VCI and engine oil will not impair the performance of the engine. The VCI and engine oil will not cause the engine to continue to smoke. The cleanup of the VCI and engine oil should be included in the start-up procedure.Note: Do not submit a warranty claim for the removal of oil from the inlet for the engine or for the removal of oil from the piping for the exhaust. Do not submit a warranty claim for smoke from the engine upon the initial engine start-up.
