Problem
Some of the machines listed above have reports of swing drive or bearing noise. The noise is noticeable as swing accelerates with steady RPM and during a slow stop.Solution
Perform the following procedure in order to fix the noise. If the noise remains after performing the items in the following procedure, consult with Product Support of your region.Inspection Procedure
Stop proceeding to the next step when the noise is fixed with executing a particular step
Check the sound level during swing operation. If the noise always occurs during the swing operation, the swing motor is probably not the cause of the noise. Proceed to Step 2. If the noise comes at the start and stop of the swing operation, the swing drive or swing bearing is probably not the cause of the noise. Proceed to Step 5.
Check the following items
Amount of bearing grease
Bearing tooth flank
Amount of oil in the swing drive
Identify if there is an iron powderIf there are some faults, repair them. Refer to the proper service manual and/or the following procedure.

Good condition (6) Wave pattern (7) Gear top surfaceNote: Make sure that there is enough grease on the inner surface. Check the surface of the grease if it is a wave pattern by the pinion gear.
Check to see if the bolts are loose on the swing bearing and swing drive. If the bolts are loose, replace the bolts and washers on the swing drive and tighten the bolts to a torque of 900 10 N m (664 7.4 lb ft). Tighten the bearing to a torque of 900 10 N m (664 7.4 lb ft).
Measure the backlash. Refer to KENR7985 Testing and Adjusting. If the backlash is wrong, replace with the brand new swing bearing. Refer to KENR8157 Disassembly and Assembly.
Validate that the swing relief pressure is 31400 1000 kPa (4554 145 psi). If the pressure is wrong, reset the swing relief pressure. Refer to Testing and Adjusting, KENR7985, "Relief Valve (Swing)"
Validate that the drain pressure is 31400 1000 kPa (4554 145 psi). If the pressure is OK, skip Step 7. Refer to Testing and Adjusting, KENR7985, "Swing Motor - Test-Measurement of Case Drain Oil"

Swing pressure
Disconnect the hose and install a swivel tee and measure the swing make up pressure when the noise occurs.
Confirm the swing make up pressure is from 0 MPa (0 psi) to 1 MPa (145 psi) during swing operation. If the pressure is OK, go back to Step 2.
