Use this procedure in order to troubleshoot a low boost pressure or use this procedure if the following diagnostic code is active. Access the monitoring system on Cat® Electronic Technician (ET) in order to view the current trip points for this code.

Troubleshooting Test Steps Value Results
1. Check for Engine Derate.
A. Connect Cat ET and check for logged derate events. A status indicator for an active engine derate will appear on Cat ET if a derate is occurring.
Engine Derate
Result : There is not an engine derate.
Proceed to Test Step 2.
Result : There is an engine derate.
Repair : Check for altitude, high exhaust temperatures, air filter restriction, high coolant temperatures, water temperatures, and crankcase pressure. Resolve any problems.
If the problem is not resolved, proceed to Test Step 2.
2. Check the Air Inlet and Exhaust System.
A. Check for air filter restriction.
B. Verify that the air shutoff valves are fully open, if installed.
C. Check the air inlet and exhaust systems for restrictions.
Air Inlet and Exhaust Systems
Result : The air filter is OK.
Proceed to Test Step 2-B.
Result : The air filter is NOT OK.
Repair : Replace any plugged air filters.
If the problem is not resolved, proceed to Test Step 2-B.
Result : The air shutoff valves are OK.
Proceed to Test Step 2-C.
Result : The air shutoff valves are NOT OK.
Repair : Open the air shutoff valves.
If the problem is not resolved, proceed to Test Step 2-C.
Result : There are no restrictions in the air inlet or exhaust systems.
Proceed to Test Step 3.
Result : There are restrictions in the air inlet and/or exhaust system.
Repair : Remove any restrictions for the air systems.
If the problem is not resolved, proceed to Test Step 3.
3. Check the Fuel Supply.
A. Visually check the fuel level in the fuel tank. Do not rely on the fuel gauge only.
B. Check the fuel lines for the following problems: restrictions, collapsed lines, and pinched lines.
C. Check the fuel tank for debris or foreign objects which may block the fuel supply.
Note : Check the fuel system for air. Refer to Systems Operation/Testing and Adjusting for information that is related to checking the fuel system for air.
D. Check the filtered fuel pressure while the engine is being cranked. Refer to Systems Operation/Testing and Adjusting for the test procedure and for the correct pressure values.
Fuel Supply
Result : The fuel level in the tank is OK.
Continue to Test Step 3-B.
Result : The fuel level in the tank is NOT OK.
Repair : If the engine has been run out of fuel, the fuel system will need to be purged. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual for the correct procedure. If necessary, add fuel to the fuel tank.
Result : The fuel lines are OK.

Troubleshooting Test Steps Value Results
1. Check for Engine Derate.

Result : There is not an engine derate.
Proceed to Test Step 2.
Result : There is an engine derate.

If the problem is not resolved, proceed to Test Step 2.

Proceed to Test Step 2-C.
Result : The air shutoff valves are NOT OK.
Repair : Open the air shutoff valves.
If the problem is not resolved, proceed to Test Step 2-C.
Result : There are no restrictions in the air inlet or exhaust systems.
Proceed to Test Step 3.
Result : There are restrictions in the air inlet and/or exhaust system.
Repair : Remove any restrictions for the air systems.
If the problem is not resolved, proceed to Test Step 3.
3. Check the Fuel Supply.
A. Visually check the fuel level in the fuel tank. Do not rely on the fuel gauge only.
B. Check the fuel lines for the following problems: restrictions, collapsed lines, and pinched lines.
