Illustration 4 g00644075Note: The Collar Retainer, the Stud Tensioner Cylinder, and the Threaded Collar are part of Tooling (A).
Place Collar Retainer (8) on top of Stud Tensioner Cylinder (7) in order to determine the bolts to be removed from the Stud Tensioner Cylinder. Remove the four appropriate bolts from the Stud Tensioner Cylinder.
Insert the Threaded Collar in the center of Stud Tensioner Cylinder (7).
Install Collar Retainer (8) in order to retain Threaded Collar (6) in Stud Tensioner Cylinder (7).
Use bolts (9) in order to fasten Collar Retainer (8) to Stud Tensioner Cylinder (7).

Put supports (1) and tray (3) in position under the main bearing cap. Be sure to install the spring clips to hold the components in position.
Put the Stud Tensioner Cylinders and Threaded Collars in position on the tray under the main bearing studs. Put the reaction sleeve in place on the stud over the main bearing cap nut and secure the reaction sleeve with the dowel handle.

Fasten brackets (4) to the bolt holes in the side cover. Connect link (5) to the Stud Tensioner Cylinder. Note: Each bracket (4) has an adjustment screw to change the angle of Tooling (A), which allows you to lift the tensioner cylinder better.
Use Tooling (C) to lift the Stud Tensioner Cylinder and the reaction sleeve on the stud. The adapter nut should turn freely on to the stud.
Attach Tooling (B) or tooling (A).
Tighten the threaded collar with a ratchet wrench (1/2 inch drive). Loosen the collar for 1 1/2 turns.
Before you operate the pump, ensure that all connections are secure. Ensure that all hoses are in good condition. Oil escaping under high pressure can cause personal injury.
Note: The stud tensioner tool groups in Tooling (A) and Tooling (B) require different operating pressure.
Operate the pump in Tooling (A) or Tooling (B) until the operating pressure is registered on the gauge. This force will put tension on the studs so that the nuts can be loosened.
Use the dowel handle in order to loosen the nuts for 1 1/2 turns (12 holes).
Slowly release the hydraulic pressure.
Disconnect the hoses. Use Tooling (C) to lower the Stud Tensioner Cylinder to the tray as the adapter nut is loosened.
Disconnect the link from Tooling (C). Move the Stud Tensioner Cylinders out of the way of the main bearing cap. Disconnect the link from the handling tool group and move the Stud Tensioner Cylinders out of the way of the main bearing cap. Be sure that the stud is not turning with the threaded collar. Do not remove the stud.

Install pins (2) in the main bearing cap. The pins have spacers in order to obtain a good fit on the main bearing cap.
Connect the links on the handling tool group to pins (2) on the main bearing caps.
Use the handling tool
