Secure the accumulator valve with nut (5). Tighten nut (5) to a torque of 102.5 7.5 N m (75.6 5.5 lb ft).
Illustration 10 g00393005
Tighten nut (4) to a torque of 30.5 3.5 N m (22.5 2.6 lb ft).
Connect a hose to the pressure regulator on nitrogen cylinder. Only use dry nitrogen.
Dry nitrogen is the only gas approved for use in the accumulator. Charging the accumulator with oxygen gas will cause an explosion. This danger will not happen if nitrogen cylinders with standard CGA (Compressed Gas Association, Inc.) Number 580 connections are used. When you order nitrogen gas, be sure that the cylinders are equipped with CGA No. 580 Connections. Do not use color codes or other methods of identification to tell the difference between nitrogen and oxygen cylinders.
Install Tool (B) on the valve of the accumulator. Connect the swivel adapter of the hose assembly to the valve extension.
Failure to follow the recommended procedure or the specified tooling that is required for the procedure could result in damage to components. To avoid component damage, follow the recommended procedure using the recommended tools.
Note: If the accumulator is charged too rapidly, the bladder can rupture. Set the regulator to charge only 69 kPa (10 psi).
Slowly charge the bladder to approximately 69 kPa (10 psi) before nut (4) is completely tightened.Note: The following chart shows the charging pressure and the temperature for the 9600 kPa (1400 psi) accumulator.

( 1 ) The allowable tolerance on the nominal pressure is +70 kPa (+10 psi).
Continue to inflate the accumulator to 9600 kPa (1400 psi) by slowly opening the pressure regulator valve on the nitrogen cylinder. Occasionally close the pressure regulator valve on the nitrogen cylinder in order to allow the needle on the pressure gauge to stabilize. This provides an accurate reading of the precharge pressure. When the correct precharge pressure is reached, securely close the pressure regulator valve on the nitrogen cylinder.
The purge valve can be used to release any excess gas pressure.
