Transmission overheating issues have been observed on CT660 equipped with the CX31 non-retarder transmission. Overheating seems to have been caused in steep grade situations and on certain configurations of trucks.Root Cause
Driver leaving transmission in gear with parking brake applied. (enable auto neutral)
Truck specifications for application used is incorrect (first gear lock-up or rear gear change needed)
Cooler undersized for application/operating conditions.Solution
Work with the DSN to determine proper repair procedure. Dealer to fill out CX31 overheat check list located on "dealer.cat.com" before contacting DSN.
