1) Remove and disassemble the rear axle shafts.
Note: Refer to RENR3578 416D, 420D, 424D, 428D, 430D, 432D, 438D and 442D Backhoe Loaders Power Train Disassembly and Assembly for removal and disassembly of rear axle.
2) Install new axle shafts.

Dear Caterpillar Product Owner:
New axle shafts may need to be installed on the products listed below. The axle shafts may have cracks in the root of the splines. If the cracks propagate they can lead to failure of the axle shaft, which may result in personal injury or death. You will not be charged for the service performed.
Contact your local Caterpillar dealer immediately to schedule this service. The dealer will advise you of the time required to complete this service.
Please refer the dealer to their Service Letter dated 11Oct2006 when scheduling this service.
