Dear Caterpillar Product Owner:
The rear spindle bolt torque needs to be inspected on the products listed below. The existing bolts can loosen and cause the spindle to separate from the receiver. You will not be charged for the service performed.
Contact your local Caterpillar dealer immediately to schedule this service. The dealer will advise you of the time required to complete this service.
Please refer the dealer to their Service Letter dated 20Sep2007 when scheduling this service.

Rework Procedure
Refer to the Service Manual as required.
Remove the rear tires and rims to gain access to the spindle bolts. Check the torque of the 1D-4610 Bolts using a 350 Nm torque wrench.
If the bolts turn before reaching 350 Nm, they have not been tightened to the proper torque. These bolts may be reused. Using an alternating sequence, tighten the bolts to a torque of 300 +/- 50 Nm. Then turn the bolts an additional 120 +/- 5 Degrees.
If the bolts do not turn at 350 Nm, they may or may not have been tightened properly. Check them again using a 575 Nm torque wrench. If the bolts still do not turn before reaching 575 Nm, no further action is required. If the bolts do turn before reaching 575 Nm, replace them with new 1D-4610 Bolts. Using an alternating sequence, tighten the bolts to a torque of 300 +/- 50 Nm. Then turn the bolts an additional 120 +/- 5 Degrees.
Reinstall the rear tires and rims. Tighten the lug nuts to a preliminary torque of 140 +/- 20 Nm (105 +/- 15 lb ft). Tighten the lug nuts again to a final torque of 500 +/- 35 Nm (370 +/- 26 lb ft).
