The problem that is listed below does have a known permanent solution, however the components needed to implement the permanent solution are not yet available. Until a permanent solution is available, use the solution that is stated below.Problem
An interference condition can exist between the 268-2960 Clamp As and the 362-6255 Compressor Housing used in 352-6378 Turbocharger Gp with serial numbers RIM41565 and below. Turbocharger groups with serial number RIM41566 and above do not have this interference condition. The interference can reduce the service life of the clamp and damage the turbocharger.This potential condition only exists on 1566 kW (2100 hp) 789D machine engines.Note: Clamp failure due to this interference condition has been reported at only a few mine sites. Often, replacement of the failed clamp is all that is required to return the machine to service, particularly if clamps are inspected routinely. Routine inspection every 500 hours is recommended, not to exceed 1000 hours. For any failures, enter a service request in the DSN system directed to the attention of Spencer Geswein. Please include turbocharger serial number/s and photo documentation of any failed components in the DSN service request.Solution

Determine if the machine engine contains a 352-6378 Turbocharger Gp with serial number RIM41565 and below. The turbocharger serial number can be found on the plate which is on top of the cartridge group, near the oil supply line. Table 1 gives the build year and build month codes for the turbocharger serial number.
Inspect 268-2960 Clamp As for signs of damage. Refer to Illustration 1 and Illustration 2 below for representative images of clamp failure. Replace clamps if damage is found and inspect other components for resultant damage.
