Information:

Industrial, Marine And Generator Set Engines Equipped With Woodward EG3PC Or EG10PC ActuatorsReports show that some EG3PC and EG10PC Actuators have been returned to the factory because their operation was not correct. Inspection of the actuators showed that internal adjustments had been made. Specifically, the spring seat adjustment screw and/or the pilot valve centering screw had been turned. As a result, it was not possible to get correct governor operation by adjusting the linkage or adjusting the control panel settings. To prevent this type of problem, do not make any internal adjustments to the Woodward EG3PC or EG10PC Actuators. Lockwire has been added to the EG10PC Actuator to help prevent unauthorized internal adjustments.
Needle valve location. The needle valve (see the illustration) is used to adjust actuator stability. The needle is factory set at two turns out (counter clockwise) from closed. If adjustment is required, use the procedure that follows.
1. With the engine running at normal operating temperature, adjust the governor gain and stability to get acceptable engine performance and stability. See the Service Manual, 2301 Electric Governors, Form SENR2928.2. Stop the engine and let it cool down to ambient temperature.3. Start the engine. If the speed is unstable at start-up, turn the needle valve clockwise to increase actuator response time (increase stability). The engine should not be operated with the needle valve less than 3/4 of a turn from the clockwise stop (closed position).
