Introduction
This Special Instruction contains the necessary procedures and information for the repair of a 3306 engine after a cylinder head gasket failure. Proper repair procedures will increase the longevity of a head to block joint repair. The omission of any of the steps from the procedure could reduce the useful service life of the new cylinder head gasket.In addition to the steps outlined in this special instruction, correct calibration and operation of other components/systems should be verified. These can include:* Ether Starting Aids* Timing Advance* Governor Rack/Torque Settings* Water Pump Output/Thermostat Operation* Radiator/Oil Cooler Flow - Winter Fronts* Intake/Exhaust System Restriction LevelsThese components affect the cylinder pressure and thermal stress to which the head gasket is subjected. Improper calibration and operation will adversely affect the life of the head to block joint repair. Refer to the service manual for operations not covered in this special instruction.
