When a new stem is installed, it may be necessary to add or subtract shims. Use the procedure that follows to determine if more or less shims are needed.
1. Make sure the machine is on a level surface.2. Install a tee between the pilot system oil line and the housing on each side of the main control valve group. See the illustration. Install a pressure gauge on each tee.3. Start the engine. Set the throttle at high idle.4. Slowly, move the swing control lever until the machine just starts to swing. Make a note of the pressure reading. Move the swing control lever so the machine moves in the other direction. When the machine just starts to swing, make a note of the pressure reading.5. Move the gauges to the opposite sides of the control valve and do Step 4 again.6. Use the pressure readings from Steps 4 and 5 to get an average pressure reading for both sides of the control valve. The average will help reduce any error that may be in the gauges.7. The machine should start to swing when the pressure on the gauge shows 620 to 650 kPa (90-95 psi). Add or subtract 7F5423 Shims as necessary so the machine will begin to swing within this pressure range. One 7F5423 Shim will change the pressure approximately 20 kPa (3 psi).8. The pressures needed to swing left or swing right (see Steps 4 and 5) should be the same. Add or subtract 2F3012 Shims as necessary so that this pressure is the same. One 2F3012 Shim can change the pressure difference by approximately 40 kPa (6 psi).If the pressure needed to swing the machine to the left is higher than to the right, add shims as necessary. If the pressure needed to swing the machine to the right is higher than to the left, remove shims as necessary.
