Remove the cotter pin. Loosen nut (5) until there is a gap of approximately 6.4 mm (0.25 inch). Repeat this Step for the other end of the steering cylinder.

Typical example
Place Tooling (A) just between the steering cylinder and the steering arm.
Strike Tooling (A) with a hammer in order to loosen the ballstud.
Repeat Steps 4 through 5 in order to loosen the ballstud at the opposite end of the steering cylinder.

Fasten Tooling (B) to steering cylinder (3) and remove steering cylinder (3). The weight of steering cylinder (3) is approximately 51 kg (112 lb).

Remove ring (9) and cover (10). Remove seal (7) from the ball stud.
Attach a suitable lifting device to the cylinder and position the cylinder into a suitable press.
Position a suitable piece of pipe over ball stud (6) and against race (8).
Press ball stud (6) and race (8) out of the steering cylinder.
Repeat Steps 8 through 11 for the remaining ball stud.
Repeat Steps 2 through 12 for the remaining steering cylinder. Installation Procedure

Use a suitable press in order to press ballstud (6) and race (8) in the cylinder ends.
Install cover (10) and ring (9) on each cylinder end. Install each seal (7) without lubricant.

Apply Tooling (C) to the taper on the ball studs. Use Tooling (B) to position the steering cylinder on the machine with the ball studs in the respective bores. Install nuts (5). Tighten nuts (5) to a torque of 1350 N m (996 lb ft). Note: If the cotter pins cannot be installed, tighten the nuts to the next slot.
Install the cotter pins that hold nuts (5).

Install the hose assembly (1) and hose assembly (2) to steering cylinder (3).
Fill the steering system hydraulic tank with oil to the correct level. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Refill Capacities". Disassembly and Assembly Information

Cylinders equipped with lock valves can remain pressurized for very long periods of time, even with the hoses removed.Failure to relieve pressure before removing a lock valve or disassembling a cylinder can result in personal injury or death.Ensure all pressure is relieved before removing a lock valve or disassembling a cylinder.

Apply Tooling (F) to the threads of bolt (1). Tighten bolt (1) to a torque of 1800 200 N m (1328 148 lb ft).
Lubricate the following sealing lips with a small amount of the lubricant that is being sealed. (2) ( 3) ( 4).
Apply Tooling (G) to the sealing groove prior to assembling the wiper seal.
Install head (5). Tighten head (5) to a torque of 600 130 N m (443 96 lb ft).
