Caterpillar Products So EquippedReference: Service Magazine, January 21, 1985, Page 7.It is important for a machine operator to understand when to shut off the battery disconnect switch on products so equipped. For this purpose all of the above products can be divided into two groups.
The first group consists of all products that have a key start switch. The second group consists of all other products.
Products with a key start switch should have their disconnect switches turned to the "OFF" position only when the product is being serviced or during extended storage periods. See the reference article. All other products should have their disconnect switches turned to the "OFF" position anytime the engine is shut down and/or the operator leaves the machine.
