Disconnect batteries before any service work pertaining to the electric starting motor.
Start By:a. remove right engine panel assembly Insure that the battery has been disconnected prior to removal or installation of the starter. 1. Place identification marks on the wires that are connected to the starting motor.2. Slide rubber boot (2) away from the terminal (3) and disconnect terminal (3) under rubber boot. Disconnect terminal (1) and (4). 3. Remove the three nuts and washers (5) that hold the starter to the flywheel housing. Remove starting motor (6). The weight of the starter is 10.65 kg (23 lb). The following steps are for installing the starting motor.4. Inspect the gasket for the starting motor. Install a new one if necessary. 5. Put the electric starting motor (6) in position and install the bolts and washers (5) that hold it in place.6. Connect wires to terminals (1), (3) and (4). Slide rubber boot (2) onto terminal (3).7. Tighten switch terminal to a torque of 2.25 0.25 N m (1.6 .2 lb ft).8. Install the engine side panel on the left side of the machine.9. Tighten battery and ground terminals to a torque of 26 3.5 N m (19 2 lb ft).End By:a. install right engine panel assembly
