Quick Release Valve (APPLY Position) (3) Outlet port (4) Inlet port (5) Diaphragm (6) Exhaust portIn the APPLIED position, air under pressure flows through the valve into the brake chambers. In the HOLD position, air under pressure is held in the brake chambers. In the RELEASE position, the air under pressure in the brake chambers is released.When the brake control valve is actuated, pressure air enters inlet port (4) of the quick release valve. This moves diaphragm (5) downward. This closes exhaust port (6). The outer edges of diaphragm (5) are deflected downward. Pressure air then flows through outlet port (3) to the brake chambers.

Quick Release Valve (HOLD Position) (5) Diaphragm (6) Exhaust port (7) CoverWhen the air pressure is equal on both sides of the diaphragm, the edge of diaphragm (5) is forced against cover (7). The center of the diaphragm continues to cover exhaust port (6). The valve is now in the HOLD position.

Quick Release Valve (RELEASE Position) (6) Exhaust portWhen the brake control valve is not actuated, air pressure on top of the diaphragm is released. The pressure below the center of the diaphragm raises the brake chamber and opens exhaust port (6). This allows the air pressure in the brake chambers to exhaust to the atmosphere. The valve is now in the RELEASE position.
