Introduction
The problem that is identified below does not have a known permanent solution. Until a permanent solution is known, use the solution that is identified below. The machines that are listed above could be equipped with faulty travel motors. The travel motor may stick due to a machining imperfection on the retainer ball within the travel motor. If you suspect that the travel motor is malfunctioning, use the procedure that follows to measure the case drain flow. If the case drain flow exceeds the specified value, change the travel motor. If the case drain flow does not exceed the specified value, the problem is not due to the machining imperfection.

Location of Retainer BallParts and Equipment Needed
The following parts and equipment are needed in order to measure case drain flow.
6V-9508 Plug and 6V-8397 O-Ring Seal
A hose assembly with an 11/16-16 swivel connector at one end The bulk hose can be low pressure and no fitting is required at the other end.
A calibrated container that can measure 20cc accurately The container with an approximate capacity of 250cc will be adequate.Procedure for Measuring Case Drain Flow
Refer to Illustration 2. Remove the four M12 bolts (1) that secure the final drive cover.
Illustration 2 g01733336
Refer to Illustration 3. Place a suitable tray under the final drive in order to catch the spilled oil. Disconnect the hose assembly (2) for the case drain.
Illustration 3 g01733353
Case Drain Hose
Refer to Illustration 4. Install a plug (3) in the end of the hose assembly for the case drain.
Illustration 4 g01733355
Location for Plug
Refer to Illustration 5. Attach a suitable hose assembly to the case drain port (4). Put the other end of the hose assembly in the tray.
Illustration 5 g01733357
Location for Hose Assembly
Leave the travel controls in the NEUTRAL positions. Set the travel speed control to LOW speed and leave the hydraulic lockout control in the LOCKED position.
Start the engine. Move the engine speed control to the position that is marked 2.
Refer to Illustration 6. Use a properly graduated container to measure the volume of oil that flows from the hose assembly in one minute. Repeat three times and average the three measurements.
Illustration 6 g01733374
Measure the Case Drain Flow.
Stop the engine.
The average of the three measurements should not exceed 20cc/min.
Remove the hose assembly. Remove the plug. Reconnect the hose assembly for the case drain and install the final drive cover. The tightening torque for the nut on the hose assembly for the case drain is 43 N m (32 lb ft). The tightening torque for the four bolts that secure the final drive cover is 100 N m (74 lb ft).
