Pressurized system: Hot coolant can cause serious burn. To open cap, stop engine, wait until radiator is cool. Then loosen cap slowly to relieve the pressure.
Personal injury can result from hot coolant, steam and alkali.At operating temperature, engine coolant is hot and under pressure. The radiator and all lines to heaters or the engine contain hot coolant or steam. Any contact can cause severe burns.Remove cooling system pressure cap slowly to relieve pressure only when engine is stopped and cooling system pressure cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand.Do not attempt to tighten hose connections when the coolant is hot, the hose can come off causing burns.Cooling System Coolant Additive contains alkali. Avoid contact with skin and eyes.
Do not change the coolant until you read and understand the cooling system information in Special Publication, SEBU6250, "Caterpillar Machine Fluids Recommendations".Failure to do so could result in damage to the cooling system components.
"ASTM D4985" coolant may not be mixed with any other coolants. Do not add any extender.Mix the coolant with distilled water at the rate of 1/1. Ordinary water is not suitable. The use of more distilled water/coolant as well as the use of pure distilled water/coolant is not allowed.Improper mixing could result in damage to cooling system/engine components.
Mixing ELC with other products will reduce the effectiveness of the coolant.This could result in damage to cooling system components.If Caterpillar products are not available and commercial products must be used, make sure they have passed the Caterpillar EC-1 specification for pre-mixed or concentrate coolants and Caterpillar Extender.
Note: During the warranty period, this procedure may be performed by Cat dealers only.Machines (S/N: LJH1-01249LJ41-00149LJG1-00299LJ51-00149LJN1-00649LJ61-00149) are shipped from the factory with coolant that fulfills "ASTM D4985". Coolant that fulfills "ASTM D4985" is required when you are changing the coolant.Machines (S/N: LJH01250-UpLJ400150-UpLJG00300-UpLJ500150-UpLJN00650-UpLJ600150-Up) are shipped from the factory with Cat Extended Life Coolant.If the coolant in the machine is changed to Extended Life Coolant from another type of coolant, see Special Publication, SEBU6250, "Caterpillar Machine Fluids Recommendations".
Open the engine door.

Loosen the radiator cap (1) slowly in order to release pressure. Remove the radiator cap.Note: Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "General Hazard Information" for information that pertains to containing fluid spillage.
Remove side cover (3) .
Remove drain plug (4) .Note: Dispose of drained fluids according to local regulations.
Drain remaining liquid with hose (5) .
Flush the cooling system with clean water until the draining water is clean.
Fill with the appropriate coolant mixture. See Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Capacities (Refill)".
Start the engine. Run the engine for 5 to 10 minutes.
Stop the engine. Let the engine cool.
Check the coolant reservoir. Maintain the coolant level in the middle of sight glass (2) .
If additional coolant is necessary, remove radiator cap (1) and add the appropriate coolant mixture. Install radiator cap (1) .
Close the engine door.
