VIDS ECM operates the autolube system and the VIDS ECM monitors the status of the autolube system. The VIDS ECM can detect plugged lines or an empty lubricant reservoir. There are four autolube switches. The four switches are monitored by the VIDS ECM. Three switches are attached to the three distribution manifolds. The switches open and the switches close as lubricant is pumped through the system. The switch will not cycle if there is a plugged lubricant line. The VIDS will alert the operator at the end of any lubrication cycle if a switch or switches have failed to complete at least one "ON\OFF\ON" or "OFF\ON\OFF" cycle. The status of the switch inputs that are shown on the message center are not important, since the switch can be either open or the switch can be closed. The fact that the switch cycles during the lubrication cycle is important. The first step in locating the failure is to determine which of the manifold switches does not cycle. Then the service person can open the suspected line or lines and operate the lubrication system to visually locate the plugged line. The autolube system does not detect broken lines or open lines. The operator should monitor the system for an excessive buildup of lubricant. This buildup of lubricant indicates an open line or a broken line. The fourth switch is located on the pump. The switch is used to indicate when the reservoir of the autolube system is empty. If the system has lubricant then the switch will be open all of the time. If the reservoir is empty, the switch will cycle when the lubrication pump is in operation. The switch may be open or the switch may be closed. The condition of the switch depends on the position of switch arm when the pump stops.Operation of the Automatic Lubrication System Automatic Lubrication Cycle TimeThe lubrication cycle time is the time period between the lube times. The automatic lubrication cycle time can be adjusted through the keypad. See the System Operation, "VIDS Menus" section of this manual for additional information. Automatic Lubrication Duration TimeOnce the automatic lubrication cycle time is completed, the automatic lubrication duration time starts. Manual LubricationThe keypad allows the user to manually start the lubrication process. The user can start the lubrication process by using a menu command or the user can press the "7" key (Hot Key). The duration time of the manual lube process is the same as the current setting of the lube duration in the Autolube System. The manual lubrication is considered an extra application and does not change the schedule of the Autolube System.
