The problem that is identified below does not have a known permanent solution. Until a permanent solution is known, use the solution that is identified below.Problem
There have been instances of 4364-17 diagnostic codes being difficult to clear. A 4364-17 diagnostic code may trigger a level 3 Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) operator inducement which results in an engine derate.Solution
Do not operate or work on this product unless you have read and understood the instruction and warnings in the relevant Operation and Maintenance Manuals and relevant service literature. Failure to follow the instructions or heed the warnings could result in injury or death. Proper care is your responsibility.
Use the electronic service tool to generate a Product Status Report (PSR).
Follow the relevant troubleshooting procedures for all active diagnostic codes. Perform the troubleshooting in the following order:
EGR system inducements
Electrical system inducements
Low Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) inducements
DEF quality inducements
SCR system inducementsPerform any additional troubleshooting if not already covered by the list above:
Troubleshooting, Sensor Supply - Test
Troubleshooting, Valve Position - Test
Troubleshooting, Motorized Valve - Test
Use the electronic service tool to perform the "Aftertreatment Sulfation Recovery Procedure". Change the following configuration settings to perform this procedure:
Go to "Customer Configuration", then "J1939 Continuous Fault Handling".
Set "Remote Torque Speed Control Enable Status" to "Source 249".
Set "TSC1 Fault Reaction" to "Disabled".
Set "TSC1 Fault Handling" to "Disabled".The chosen machine idle safe state interlock option must be configured correctly for the service procedure to work. This parameter is configured using the electronic service tool. The "Machine Idle Input Configuration" configurable parameter has three options:
Switch - Single wired switch
Datalink - J1939 monitoring only
Switch and Datalink (default) - Single wired switch and J1939 monitoringNote: The laptop controlling the service tool must be dedicated to the desulfation service test only. Do not run other programs or processes during the "Aftertreatment Sulfation Recovery Procedure". Configure the laptop power settings to "always on". These steps prevent communication error codes and interruption of the service procedure.Note: If the temperature conditions are not met during the warmup cycle, restart the procedure.Note: It may be necessary to restrict the cooling airflow to increase the engine coolant temperature.Note: If the test fails due to low SCR temperature, increase the load on the engine to increase the exhaust gas temperature.
