The bypass valve regulates the temperature of the oil in order to prevent overcooling. Also, the bypass valve protects the hydraulic oil cooler. The bypass valve opens if the pressure differential between the cooler inlet and the cooler outlet exceeds the specification.When the bypass valve is open, oil flows directly from the charge pump to the steering charge circuit filter without flowing through the hydraulic oil cooler. When the bypass valve closes, oil flows through the hydraulic oil cooler before going to the steering charge circuit filter.
