At operating temperature, the hydraulic oil tank is hot and under pressure. Hot oil can cause burns. Remove the fill plug only when the engine is stopped, and the fill plug is cool enough to touch with your bare hand.
1. Release the pressure from the hydraulic oil tank by slowly loosening the pressure cap located on the side of the tank. 2. Remove four socket head bolts (1) that hold pipe (2) to slow return valve (3) and pipe (4). Remove the slow return valve and the two o-ring seals. 3. Disassemble the slow return valve. Remove snap ring (9), retainer (8), spring (7) and poppet (6) from valve body (5). The following steps are for the assembly and installation of the slow return valve.4. Be sure all parts of the slow return valve are clean and free of dirt and debris. Put clean hydraulic oil on all internal parts of the valve.5. Check the condition of the o-ring seals used on each side of the slow return valve. If the seals are worn or damaged, use new parts for replacement.6. Assemble the slow return valve. Install poppet (6), spring (7), retainer (8) and snap ring (9) in body (5).7. Put slow return valve (3) and the two o-ring seals in position between pipe (2) and pipe (4). Install four socket head bolts (1) that hold the unit together.8. Check the oil level in the hydraulic oil tank. Fill the hydraulic oil tank to the correct level. See the Operation & Maintenance Manual for the correct filling procedure.
