START BY:a) remove valve coversb) remove rocker shaft assemblies **Remove rocker shafts only if all the valve lifters are to be removed. 1. If the rear valve lifters are to be removed, loosen clamps (1) and remove tubes (2) from the engine. 2. Use tool (C) and turn the crankshaft until there is no pressure on rocker arms (4). Put identification marks on the push rods as to their location in the engine.3. Use tool (A) to make a separation of the rocker arms and the push rods. Remove push rods (3). 4. Fasten tool (B) on the valve lifters and remove them. Put identification marks on the lifter as to their location in the engine.5. Remove the springs from the valve lifters.Install Valve Lifters
Install new guide springs on the valve lifters anytime the lifters are removed from the engine.
1. Use tooling (A) and a soft hammer to install a new spring on the valve lifter.2. Remove lifter from holder (1) [which is part of tooling (A)]. Put tool (C) in position in the handle of tooling (A). Be sure the valve lifters are installed in their correct location in the engine.3. Put clean engine oil on valve lifter (2). Put valve lifter (2) into position in the cylinder block with the spring on the valve lifter in alignment with the hole in the block. Push the valve lifter out of tooling (A) with tool (C). 4. Install push rods (3) in their correct locations in the engine. Use tool (B) to make a connection between push rods (3) and rocker arms (4). 5. Install tubes (5) on the engine. Put 5P3931 Anti-Seize Compound on the threads of the clamps and tighten them to a torque of 8 0.5 N m (72 4 lb.in.).END BY:a) install rocker shaft assemblies *b) install valve covers*Install rocker shafts only if all the valve lifters were removed.
