System Check of Cat® "Grade Control" (CGC)
A quick check of the accuracy of the Cat® "Production Measurement" system should be performed if the operator suspects a problem. Prior to beginning this procedure, refer to information about setting a benchmark for the bucket. This information is found in Operation and Maintenance Manual, SEBU8358, "Grade Control Guidance Screen". Follow the procedure detailed below for both machine positions:Machine Position 1

The procedure described below allows the operator to perform a quick check of the CPM system accuracy when the bucket is empty.Note: Before starting this procedure, inspect the bucket for excess dirt or debris. Clean the bucket, if necessary.

Step Details
1. Perform "Bucket Zero" at "Stick In" position with an empty bucket. Record the "Bucket Zero Offset Value".(1)
2. Perform "Bucket Zero" with the "Stick" in the vertical position with an empty bucket. Record the "Bucket Zero Offset Value".(1)
3. Perform "Bucket Zero" at "Stick Out" position with an empty bucket. Record the "Bucket Zero Offset Value".(1)
4. Compare the offset values from Steps 1 through 3. The three values are within a range of 200 kg (440 lb).
5. The values are within the acceptable range The accuracy check was successful.
6. The values are NOT within the acceptable range. Locate the information within this manual and perform the "Boom Single Calibration", "Front Multi-Operation Calibration" and "Bucket Zero Calibration". After completing all required calibrations, return to Step 1 of this table and repeat the accuracy check.
(1) To access the "Bucket Zero Offset Value" from the "Main Menu", enter the "Service Menu". From the "Service Menu", enter the "Production Measurement Menu". From the "Production Measurement Menu", enter the "CPM Setting Menu". From the "CPM Setting Menu", enter the "Zero Adjustment Weight" screen display.Pressure Sensor Check
Accurate readings by the pressure sensors are important for determining the position of the front linkage for the Cat Grade Control and Production Measurement ECM. A quick check of the pressure sensors should periodically be performed to confirm that the sensors are reading correctly.Slowly raise the boom to the maximum extension of the cylinder. Slowly ramp the boom raise joystick to 100% stall command. With the boom fully raised, compare the "Pump 1" and "Pump 2" pressures with the Boom Head End pressure sensor.Lower the boom slightly, to remove trapped pressure. Repeat the process described in the previous paragraph.If the Boom Head End pressure does not match the pressure sensor readings for the pumps, the Boom Cylinder Pressure sensor may be out of range. Troubleshooting of the sensor and/or supply lines to the sensor is recommended.Use the process described for the Boom
