Typical Installation for Communication System for the HMI Display
The CG137 Human Machine Interface display (HMI display) communicates with the engine control module (ECM) over the CAN Data Link.If the CAN Data Link communications between the HMI display and engine ECM is lost, the HMI display will report active -9 abnormal update rate diagnostics for any CAN device in which the HMI expects to receive information from. There is no diagnostic code that the HMI will report out against itself to alert the operator that communication has been lost with the engine ECM. If the HMI is reporting multiple device -9 diagnostics and the engine ECM is not a CAN data link wiring problem between the terminal block and the HMI is possible or there is a problem with a terminating resistor.If one or multiple CAN devices lose communication with the engine ECM, the HMI and engine ECM will report and active -9 abnormal update rate code for the device no longer communicating with the engine ECM. Problem System Check
Display will not turn ON. Check display power and ground connections. The display will operate on voltage between 10 a 32 VDC.
Display is not communicating with Engine ECM. Check CAN data link wiring for loose connections, check for correct data link resistance at 60 ohms. Refer to main schematic.
