Information:
Brake Pedals
SMCS CODE: 4251; 4265 Service Brake/Transmission Neutralizer Pedal (1) - The left brake pedal disengages the transmission and brakes the machine. This permits higher engine speed for better hydraulic response.Depress the left brake pedal when truck loading, positioning or when raising the bucket to increase hydraulic speed and reduce unnecessary torque converter stalling. It can also be used to give additional hydraulic power in difficult or particularly tight digging (mucking) conditions.Release the pedal to re-engage the transmission and to release the brake. Service Brake Pedal (2) - The right brake pedal slows down the machine ground speed for normal braking.Depress the right brake pedal for normal machine braking.Release the pedal to release the brake.Accelerator Pedal
SMCS CODE: 1265; 1276 Accelerator Pedal - The accelerator pedal is located on the floor of the operators station, at the right.Push down the pedal to increase engine/travel speed.Release the pedal to decrease engine/travel speed. Under certain critical conditions (engine fault), the ECM will reduce available engine power (derate) or shutdown the engine. For a detailed description of the ECM refer to 3176B Engine Electronic Troubleshooting, Form No. SENR6497 in the machine Service Manual.
If the shutdown mode occurs after the engine has derated, engine shutdown may take as little as 20 seconds from the time the engine derated. If possible, the machine should be steered carefully to a safe location off the roadway and brought to a stop. The machine can be restarted following shutdown if necessary for emergency manoeuvres.Investigate the cause of the engine shutdown. Do not operate the engine until the cause has been corrected.
Steering Control
SMCS CODE: 4300 Steering Wheel - The directional steering of the machine is controlled by the steering wheel. The direction the steering wheel is turned is the direction the machine will turn. The steering frame lock link must be disconnected to steer the machine. See Before Starting the Engine for information. Left Turn - Move the steering wheel in a counterclockwise direction to steer the machine to the left. The further the steering wheel is turned in a counterclockwise direction, the sharper the left turn. Right Turn - Move the steering wheel in a clockwise direction to steer the machine to the right. The further the steering wheel is turned in a clockwise direction, the sharper the right turn.Transmission Neutral Lock
SMCS CODE: 3183 Transmission Neutral Lock - This lock is used to lock the transmission shift control in the neutral position. Locked - Move the transmission control lever into the NEUTRAL position. Press the right side of the switch to lock the transmission control in the NEUTRAL position. Unlocked - Press the left side of the switch to unlock the transmission control.Transmission Direction and Speed Control
SMCS CODE: 3168; 3033Direction Selector
Transmission Control Lever - This lever is used to select direction and speed. FORWARD (F) - Move the transmission control lever up. The machine will move forward. NEUTRAL (N) - The machine should not move when the transmission control lever is in neutral. REVERSE (R) - Move the transmission
SMCS CODE: 4251; 4265 Service Brake/Transmission Neutralizer Pedal (1) - The left brake pedal disengages the transmission and brakes the machine.
