Inverter low voltage compartments that house the terminal blocks, the ground block, the motor control ECMs, and the interface modules.
(1) Terminal Blocks - Used for connection to the voltage sensors, current sensors, and the system control 24 VAC circuits.
(2) Interface Module 2 - Used between the Motor 2 ECM and the phase modules for the Traction Motor 2. The interface modules are used for conversion and isolation of the copper transistor driver and feedback circuits to fiber optic circuits. Also used for isolation of the phase module power AC supply circuits.
(3) Motor 2 ECM - Monitors and controls the operation of the Traction Motor 2.
(4) Interface Module 1 - Used between the Motor 1 ECM and the phase modules for the Traction Motor 1. The interface modules are used for conversion and isolation of the copper transistor driver and feedback circuits to fiber optic circuits. Also used for isolation of the phase module power AC supply circuits.
(5) Motor 1 ECM - Monitors and controls the operation of the Traction Motor 1.Test Step 1. CHECK THE GROUND CIRCUITS
Turn the key start switch and the battery disconnect switch to the OFF position.
At the Inverter Cabinet. Remove the cover for the low voltage compartment that contains the motor control ECMs and the interface modules. The cover of the low voltage compartment containing both the terminal and ground blocks also has a cover. Remove the cover, if the ground block connections must be accessed.Note: If the high-voltage compartment must be opened, a Power Train Electrical System Service Shutdown procedure must be performed. That procedure must be done before the cover is removed. Refer to the Troubleshooting, "Electrical Shutdown and Voltage Discharge" section of this manual for the procedure that must be performed before any high-voltage compartment cover can be removed.
Disconnect the machine harness connector J1 from the Motor 2 ECM.
Examine the circuit connections that are used on the J1 connector. Ensure that all the sockets are seated and locked securely in the connector body. Verify that all the sockets are dry, clean, and free of any type of contamination. Gently pull on the wires at the back of the connector. This action will help verify that all the wires are secure and properly connected to the connector sockets. Specifically check the condition of the location code enable contact at J1-35 (wire LCE2-BK(Black)) and the location code 1 contact at J1-42 (wire LC2-BK(Black)).
At the disconnected J1 connector for the Motor 1 ECM, use a multimeter to measure the resistance between the location code enable contact J1-35 (wire LCE2-BK(Black)) and a good cabinet ground point.
At the disconnected J1 connector for the Motor 2 ECM, measure the resistance between the location code 2 contact J1-42 (wire LC2-BK(Black)) and a good cabinet ground point.Expected Result:The ECM J1 connector is in good condition. All the sockets are properly seated and all the wires are properly connected. Both of the resistance measurements between the location code circuits and cabinet ground are less than 5.0 ohms.Results:
