Remove Drive Axles
If necessary, turn the wheel assembly with the tire off the floor or move the machine from side to side (articulate) a small amount to free the axle.1. If the brake rotochamber is equipped with a parking brake, release the brake as follows: a) Drain the air from the air tanks. Drain the air from the emergency air tank under the operator's station. b) Disconnect air hose assemblies (1) and (2) from the brake rotochamber.c) Connect shop air to air inlet (3) at the top of the rotochamber. Keep the air supply constant. d) Connect shop air to inlet (4) for the parking brake. Keep the air supply constant.e) Turn the air supply to the top of the rotochamber off and the brake will release.f) Disconnect the air supply and connect air lines to the rotochamber after installation.2. Turn the wheel assembly until the drain plug on the wheel assembly is at its lowest position.3. Drain the oil from the final drive. 4. Put tooling (A) in position under the tractor part of the machine as shown. Lift the machine until the tire is off the floor.5. Put tooling (B) under the tractor to hold it in position. 6. Put tooling (C) in position under the frame at the front of the tractor. 7. Remove six nuts (5) that hold the cover over the drive axle. 8. Install three 1/2"-13 NC forcing screws in the cover. Tighten the screws evenly to loosen the cover. Remove cover (6). Check the condition of the O-ring seal on the cover. If the seal has damage, use a new part for replacement.9. Install a 5/16"-18 NC forged eyebolt in the end of the drive axle. Pull the axle out of the final drive until a hoist can be fastened to it. 10. Fasten a hoist to drive axle (7) and remove it. Weight of the drive axle is 87 lb. (39 kg). 11. Remove ring (10), gear (9) and spacer (8) from the drive axle.Install Drive Axles
1. Make sure the axles are clean and free of dirt and foreign material. 2. Fasten a hoist to drive axle (1) and put it in position in the final drive. 3. Slide tool (D) over the end of the axle and push it into the differential. Remove tool (D).4. Install the spacer, gear and ring on the end of the axle. It is necessary to move the wheel assembly a small amount if the gear on the drive axle does not move in alignment with the gears in the final drive planet carrier.5. Install the O-ring seal on the cover for the axle. Install the cover and nuts that hold it.6. Connect the air lines to the brake rotochamber.7. Fill the final drive with oil to the correct level.
