No-Spin Differential Components
(1) Cover. (2) Side gear. (3) Spring retainer. (4) Spring. (5) Driven clutch assembly. (6) Spider assembly. (7) Case.Disassemble No-Spin Differential
Start By:a. disassemble axle housing
Retaining Bolt Installation1. Install a retaining bolt with washers and wing nut through the differential assembly, as illustrated. Note that the washers must be small enough to pass through the case ends (dimension "A"), yet large enough to restrain the two side gears against the compressed springs inside the differential (dimension "B").
Failure to use a retaining bolt in the following steps can cause injury due to sudden release of compressed springs inside the no-spin differential
2. Make matching scribe marks on case (7) and cover (1). This will help ensure that these parts are reassembled in their original position.3. Remove eight bolts and washers securing cover (1) to case (7). Remove the no-spin differential from inside the case.4. Carefully remove the retaining bolt and washers while firmly holding the differential to absorb the spring force.5. Remove side gears (2), spring retainers (3), springs (4), driven clutch assemblies (5), and spider assembly (6).
Driven Clutch Assembly
(8) Driven clutch. (9) Holdout ring. Driven clutch assemblies (5) consist of the driven clutch (8) and a holdout ring (9). These two parts should not be separated. If one part is damaged, the entire driven clutch assembly must be replaced.
Spider Assembly
(10) Spider. (11) Center cam. Spider assembly (6) consists of the spider (10) and a center cam (11). These two parts should not be separated. If one part is damaged, the entire spider assembly must be replaced.6. Wash all parts thoroughly with a non-flammable solvent that will not etch, scratch or oxidize the parts. Rinse in clean solvent and dry.7. Inspect the splines on the driven clutches (8). Remove any burrs or small chips. If sections of the spline are broken away, replace the parts.8. Inspect the teeth on the driven clutches (8). If wear or chipping is present, replace the part.9. Check holdout rings (inside driven clutch) for fractures and chipping or excessive wear of the teeth. Replace driven clutch assembly (5) if necessary.10. Inspect the teeth on spider and center cam (inside spider). If wear or chipping is present, replace the spider assembly (6).11. Make sure center cam moves freely inside spider assembly (6).12. Inspect the splines on side gears (2). Remove any burrs or small chips. If splines are broken or badly chipped, or if hub walls are fractured, replace the part.13. Check the way each side gear (2) fits on its mating axle shaft (part of the wheel end assembly). Make sure that the splines do not bind.14. Check the spring load of the two springs (4) as follows: a. Place one spring (4) in a spring tester.b. Compress the spring to its operating height of 21.8 mm (.86 in.).c. The force of the compressed spring should be 35 + 3.5 kg (77 + 7.7 lbs.).d. Repeat steps a through c for the other spring (4).e. If either spring load is not correct, both springs
