Caterpillar Inc. Electric Power Division has released engine generator set packages that are developed to meet the International Standards Organization (ISO) 8528-9, Level 2 Vibration Standard. The packages that are developed in order to meet the ISO 8528-9 requirements are the 3456, C9, C15, and C18 Common Design generator sets.Caterpillar Inc. supports the target of developing products for a global marketplace. ISO Standards are internationally recognized and are internationally accepted. The objective to develop engine generator set packages in order to meet the ISO Standard 8528-9 for vibration limits will allow a more universal comparison between competitive products.The ISO Standard 8528-9 prescribes more comprehensive vibration measurements. Due to the ISO Standard 8528-9, core measurements and package attachment behavior are better characterized.Therefore, the ISO Standard 8528-9 will provide a better understanding of the overall package vibration behavior. Also, the ISO Standard 8528-9 will provide agreement between core component suppliers.Refer to Special Instruction, REHS3679 for information about the measurement and evaluation of external mechanical vibration characteristics of the generator sets that are discussed in this article.
