Procedure for the Calibration of the Torque Converter Pedal Position Sensor for the Impeller Clutch
Personal injury or death can result from sudden machine movement.Sudden movement of the machine can cause injury to persons on or near the machine.Prevent possible injury by performing the procedure that follows before working on the machine.
Park the machine on a smooth, level surface.
Shift the transmission direction control switch to the NEUTRAL position.
Lower the bucket or the work tool to the ground.
Engage the parking brake.
Place blocks in front of the wheels and behind the wheels.
Install the steering frame lock.
Shut off the engine. Note: This calibration procedure can be performed without a running engine.
Turn the key start switch and the disconnect switch to the ON position.
Allow only authorized personnel on the machine. Keep unauthorized personnel off the machine and in clear sight of the operator.
Use the 4C-8195 Control Service Tool to enter Transmission Calibration Mode (6) via the "MODE" switch. Then enter submode 29 by using the "SCROLL" switch.
Use the INCREMENT (+) and DECREMENT (−) positions of the "CLEAR" switch in order to start the calibration procedure.
The display should show "29_ ---" in order to begin calibration of the torque converter.
Toggle the position of the CLEAR switch until the display shows "29_C00".
Fully release the torque converter pedal and then press the INCREMENT (+) switch. The display on the Caterpillar Monitoring System will show "29_C01".
Fully depress the torque converter pedal and then press the INCREMENT (+) switch. The display on the Caterpillar Monitoring System should change to "29_C02". Note: The foot pedal must be fully depressed in order to ensure that the full range of travel is recorded.
Fully release the torque converter pedal and then toggle the INCREMENT (+) switch. The display on the Caterpillar Monitoring System should change to "29_---" if the calibration was successful. The display will read "29_EXX" if the calibration was unsuccessful. Check the error codes in Table 1.

To exit submode 29, scroll to the next submode by using the "SCROLL" switch or exit the Transmission Calibration Mode by using the "MODE" switch.
