At operating temperature, the engine coolant is hot and under pressure. Steam can cause personal injury. Drain the coolant only after the engine has been stopped and the fill cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand. Remove the fill cap from the radiator slowly to relieve pressure. Cooling system conditioner contains alkali. Avoid contact with the skin and eyes to avoid personal injury.
Drain the coolant in a suitable container for storage or disposal.1. Drain the coolant in a suitable container.2. Open the hood assembly, and lock it in the "Open" position. 3. Loosen hose clamp (2).4. Disconnect hose (1). 5. Remove three bolts (4) and the washers.6. Remove elbow (3). 7. Remove gasket (5) and regulator (6). Check the gasket for wear or damage. Replace if necessary. Use RTV Silicone-Red 8T-9013 when replacing the gasket. When installing, position the regulator with its air vent hole up. Be sure that both surfaces are clean of the old gasket material before beginning the installation procedure.Regulator Testing Procedure:Put the regulator in a water tub, and test it for thermostatic action by heating the tub to raise the water temperature. Measure the temperature at which the valve lifts more than 10 mm (0.4 in). If the valve fails to operate properly, replace the regulator. The regulator opening temperature is 71 2° C (160 3.6° F).
Stir the water in the bath with a stick to maintain its temperature uniformity during the test.
For the installation of the water temperature regulator, reverse the removal steps. Refer to the Topic "Lubricant Viscosities and Refill Capacities" in the "Operation and Maintenance Manual" for the proper filling procedure and the proper levels for the coolant system.
