When reporting the repair, use "PS40547"as the Part number and "7755" as the Group Number. If administered beforefailure, use "56" as the Warranty Claim Description Code and use "T" asthe SIMS Description Code. If administered after failure, use "96" as theWarranty Claim Description Code and use "Z" as the SIMS Description Code. The information supplied in this serviceletter may not be valid after the termination date of this program. Regular life coolant has been used instead ofextended life coolant(ELC) in some 3412 generator sets. The regular coolanthas a useful life of three years as opposed to ELC, which has a usefullife of six years.AFFECTED PRODUCT

Rework as per Caterpillar Commercial Diesel EngineFluids Recommendations, publication SEBU6251-06, dated April 1999, page30. "Changing to Caterpillar ELC".To change from heavy duty coolant/antifreezeto Caterpillar ELC,perform the following steps:
Drain the coolant into a suitable container.
Dispose of the coolant according to local regulations.
Remove the empty SCA filter and remove the filterbase. Plug the coolant lines bypass the coolant lines.
Flush the system with clean water in order toremove any debris.
Use Caterpillar Cleaner to clean the system. Followthe instructions on the label.
Drain the cleaner into a suitable container. Flushthe cooling system with clean water.
Fill the cooling system with clean water and operatethe engine until the engine is warmed to 49°C to 66°C (120°Fto 150°F).
Drain the cooling system into a suitable containerand flush the cooling system with clean water.
Repeat steps 7 and 8 until the system is completely
clean.
Fill the cooling system with Caterpillar premixedELC.
Attach the Special Publication, PEEP5027,"Label" to the cooling system filler for the engine in order to indicatethe use of Caterpillar ELC.
Ref.: Cat Cooling SystemCleaner 6V4511 or 4C4611. If engines shipped without SCA filter, omit StepNumber 3. Drain total system, engine block and external coolant system.SERVICE CLAIM ALLOWANCES
