CONNECTOR AS- 6R8542 - Caterpillar

There are two water temperature regulators, one for each cylinder head.1. Drain the coolant to a level below the water temperature regulators. 2. Disconnect elbow (1) from cover assembly (3).3. Loosen the clamps on hose (2), and move the hose up on the tube assembly.4. Remove cover assembly (3) and the water temperature regulator. 5. Remove elbow (5).6. Loosen the clamps on hose (4), and move the hose up on the tube assembly.7. Remove cover assembly (6) and the water temperature regulator. 8. Remove water temperature regulator (7) from each cover assembly. 9. Remove lip-type seal (9) from each cover assembly.10. Be sure orifice (8) in each cover assembly is not plugged or restricted.11. Check the water temperature regulators. See the Specifications. 12. Use tooling (A) to install lip-type seals (9). Install the seals with the lip toward the inside of the covers. Install the seal until it contacts the counterbore in the cover assembly.13. Put clean glycerine on the lip of seal (9), and install water temperature regulator (7).14. Install cover assembly (6) with a new gasket.15. Install elbow (5) with new gaskets.16. Move hose (4) into position on cover assembly (6), and tighten the hose clamps.17. Install cover assembly (3) with a new gasket.18. Put clean glycerine on the O-ring seals on the tube which fastens to elbow (1).19. Engage elbow (1) with the tube. Fasten elbow (1) with a new gasket to cover assembly (3).20. Fill the cooling system to the correct level. See the Maintenance Guide.
