(1) Transmission oil temperature sensorThe transmission oil temperature sensor (1) is located on the manifold for the transmission lubrication valve. The transmission oil temperature sensor (1) will activate the transmission cold mode when the temperature of the transmission lubrication oil drops below 31 °C (91 °F). When the temperature of the transmission lubrication oil rises above 40 °C (104 °F), the transmission cold mode is deactivated.The transmission cold mode will limit the top speed of the truck until the temperature of the lubricating oil is high enough to ensure proper lubrication. The transmission cold mode reduces the risk of simultaneously latching three or more clutches when the truck is operated with cold oil. Shifting is limited to FIRST GEAR CONVERTER DRIVE if the transmission cold mode is active. An upshift to SECOND GEAR CONVERTER DRIVE will occur in order to prevent an engine overspeed condition. If the transmission cold mode is activated while the transmission is above FIRST GEAR, the transmission will go to CONVERTER DRIVE. This will not limit the truck to FIRST GEAR until the transmission has downshifted to FIRST GEAR in a normal manner.The torque converter temperature sensor is used as a backup if the transmission oil temperature sensor fails to send a valid signal.
