3616 (1PD) Engines In Heavy Fuel ApplicationsDescription of Change: A new water cooled exhaust valve seat insert and exhaust valve have been released for use in heavy fuel applications. The new 4P-3078 Valve Seat Insert and 111-0909 Exhaust Valve are 5 mm (.2 in) shorter than the former 7E-9641 Valve Seat Insert and 7C-4227 Exhaust Valve. They were shortened to help prevent contact between the valve and piston. The new water cooled exhaust valve seat insert and exhaust valve and new installation procedure will provide improved service life in heavy fuel applications. Adaptable To: When used together, the new 4P-3078 Water Cooled Exhaust Valve Seat Insert and 111-0909 Exhaust Valve are direct replacements for the former longer 7E-9641, 7E-6555, and 4W-0025 Exhaust Valve Seat Inserts and former longer 7C-4227 and shorter 4P-3079 Exhaust Valves. The former inserts and valves are canceled. Replacement of the former exhaust valve seat inserts and exhaust valves can only be done in pairs. Both the new 4P-3078 Water Cooled Exhaust Valve Seat Insert and 111-0909 Exhaust Valve MUST be used together. NO MIXING of current and canceled exhaust valve seat inserts and exhaust valves is allowed.Use the "Installation Of Water Cooled Valve Seat Inserts" that follows to install the new 4P-3078 Water Cooled Exhaust Valve Seat Insert. DO NOT use the procedure in Guideline For Reusable Parts, "Procedure To Salvage Cylinder Head Assemblies For 3600 Family Of Engines", SEBF8129, to install the new valve seat inserts.
Installation Of Water Cooled Exhaust Valve Seat Inserts (Used Only In Heavy Fuel Cylinder Heads)
Do not use the following procedure for installing standard (non-water cooled) valve seat inserts.Make sure the counterbores in the cylinder head for the water cooled valve seat inserts are clean and free of any foreign material.
1. The water cooled exhaust valve seat inserts must be at room temperature. DO NOT freeze the insert.2. Before installation, apply 6V-1541 Quick Cure Primer to the outside diameter of the 4P-3078 Water Cooled Exhaust Valve Seat Insert. Then, apply 9S-3265 Retaining Compound over the primer.3. Use an 8T-2674 Seat Driver and hydraulic press to push the new valve seat insert into the counterbore in the cylinder head. Press the valve seat insert until it contacts the bottom of the counterbore.4. Use the procedure described in the Disassembly and Assembly Manual, "Disassemble And Assemble Cylinder Head" to install the new 111-0909 Exhaust Valve.
