Schematic of the Circuit for the Horn Relay
Sales models 854G/992G and 854K/992K
This diagnostic code is associated with the horn relay. The Electronic Control Module (ECM) has identified more than one FMI as being responsible for a single problem. The possible causes of this diagnostic code are listed below:
The wiring harness is faulty.
The ECM generates this diagnostic code when the signal circuit is functioning correctly. This is unlikely.System Response:This failure results in diagnostic codes that are logged to the implement ECM.Test Step 1. Check The Harness And Connectors
Disconnect the machine harness connectors from the relay and the ECM.
Inspect the contacts and clean the contacts of the harness connectors.
Reconnect all harness connectors.
Turn the disconnect switch and the key start switch to the ON position.
Operate the machine.
Determine if the CID 0371 FMI 11 diagnostic code is active. Expected Result:The CID 0371 FMI 11 diagnostic code is active. Results:
YES - The CID 0371 FMI 11 diagnostic code is active. The problem has not been corrected. Proceed to Test Step 2.
NO - The CID 0371 FMI 11 diagnostic code is not active. The problem does not exist at this time.Repair: The initial diagnostic code was probably caused by a poor electrical connection or a short at one of the harness connectors that was disconnected and reconnected. Resume normal machine operation.STOPTest Step 2. CHECK THE IMPLEMENT ECM
Check the circuit again. Use Cat ET, in order to perform a wiggle test on the machine wiring harness. The wiggle test can detect momentary shorts, intermittent shorts or opens in the machine wiring harness.
Check the message center for any change to the active diagnostic codes. Expected Result:No change in active diagnostic codes is generated via the wiggle test. Results:
OK - No change in active diagnostic codes is generated via the wiggle test.Repair: Exit this procedure and perform this procedure again. If the cause of the diagnostic code is not found, the ECM may need to be replaced. Prior to replacing an ECM, always contact your dealership for possible consultation with Caterpillar. This consultation may greatly reduce repair time. If the ECM requires replacement refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Electronic Control Module (ECM) - Replace".STOP
NOT OK - Changes in active diagnostic codes are generated via the wiggle test.Repair: The harness is faulty. Repair the harness or replace the harness.STOP
