Adjustment Of Steering Brake Group
During this adjustment, the brakes will be released, and the machine will be free to move. This movement can cause personal injury or death. Make sure the machine is on a flat, level surface, put all implements down and put enough blocks at the track to prevent movement of the machine.
All steps must be done on both sides of the machine.1. Remove the 8L5202 Bolts (1), washer (2), cover assembly (3) and seals (4) from cylinder (5). See the illustration.2. Remove cotters (6) and pins (7) from lever (8).3. Install an 8L5202 Bolt in center hole (9) of the cylinder. Turn the bolt clockwise until piston (10) makes contact with ring (11).3. Turn nut assembly (12) clockwise until the brake band is tight on the drum. Then turn the nut assembly counterclockwise two and one-half turns.
Side view of steering brake group.4. Pull link (13) to the rear. Adjust rod end (14) so that it is in alignment with lever (8). Install pin (7) and cotter (6).5. Adjust rod ends (15) on rod (16) and rod (17) to put the pedals in alignment, 440.5 mm (17.34") in front of the seat plate.6. Remove bolts (1) from cylinders (5). Install seals (4), cover assemblies (3), washers (2) and bolts (1) on cylinder (5).7. Remove the blocks from the tracks, start the engine, move the implements off the ground, and test the operation of the steering brakes and the brake locks.Procedure To Tow (Pull) A Machine If The Engine Will Not Operate
The machine will be free to move when the brake lock is mechanically released. The steering brakes can be used to stop the machine; both brake pedals must be pushed and a large increase in pedal effort will be necessary. Personal injury or death can result if the machine moves. Out enough blocks at the track to prevent movement of the machine until it is ready to be towed.
1. Remove the 8L5202 Bolts (1), cover assemblies (2) and seals (3) from the cylinders (5).2. Use two of the 8L5202 Bolts, or any 3/8"-16 bolt that has 38 mm (1.5") of threads, to install in center holes (9) of cylinders (5).3. Turn the bolts clockwise until the brake lock is released.
