Information:
order to find the cause of a shutdown due to engine overspeed, perform this procedure.Note: This procedure requires the Remote Start Switch to be opened many times. In order to ease the troubleshooting process, a switch that is locally acquired should be connected to the terminals of the Remote Start Signal in the customer connection box. The terminals of the Remote Start Signal are Terminal 57 and Terminal 30.
Check For Possible Causes.
Check for possible causes of the engine overspeed condition. Refer to the Engine Service Manuals and/or the Governor Service Manuals.Expected Result: No cause should be found.Results:
OK: Proceed to the next Step.
Not OK: The cause is found. Repair the necessary engine or governor components or replace the necessary engine components or governor components. STOP.
Check The Engine Overspeed Function.Note: The operator should take precautions in order to manually stop the engine when the operator is performing this Step.
When possible, disable the engine from reaching rated speed.
Open the Remote Start Switch and then close the Remote Start Switch.
Slowly increase the RPM to rated speed.Expected Result: The engine should not overspeed and the control board should NOT shut down the engine. Also, the control board should NOT turn ON the indicator for the overspeed fault.Results:
OK: The engine reaches rated speed and the control board does NOT shut down the engine. Also, the control board does NOT turn on the indicator for an overspeed fault. The system is functioning properly. Verify that the overspeed setpoint is set correctly. See Testing And Adjusting, "Overspeed Adjustment". STOP.
Not OK: The engine overspeeds and the control board shuts down the engine. Also, the control board turns ON the indicator for an overspeed fault. In order to find the cause of the problem, refer to the Engine Service Manual and/or the Governor Service Manual. STOP.
