Install ring (16) on turbine shaft (11) .

Install O-ring seal (14) and turbine shaft (11) in turbocharger cartridge (6). Position turbocharger cartridge (6) in a suitable press, as shown. Press compressor wheel (15) on turbine shaft (11). The weight of the turbocharger cartridge (6) is approximately 30 kg (66 lb).

Do not bend or add stress to the shaft when the nut is loosened or tightened. Both the turbine and the compressor wheel must be prevented from rotating throughout the pretightening and/or tightening operation.
Note: Do not bend the turbine shaft. Any distortion of the turbine shaft could result in damage or failure of the turbocharger. Evenly distribute force on the retainer nut. This will prevent the turbine shaft from bending.
Place Tooling (B) in a vise, as shown. Use two people or use Tooling (A) to position turbocharger cartridge (6) in Tooling (B), as shown. Install retaining washer (13) and new retainer nut (12) on turbine shaft (11). Tighten retainer nut (12) to a torque of 120 5 N m (88.5 3.7 lb ft). The weight of turbocharger cartridge (6) is approximately 30 kg (66 lb).

Place turbocharger cartridge (6) in a soft jawed vise, as shown. Use Tooling (E) to check the radial movement of turbine shaft (11). The maximum radial movement that is allowed for new parts is 0.00 mm (0.00 inch) to 0.65 mm (0.026 inch). The maximum radial movement that is allowed for used parts is 0.00 mm (0.00 inch) to 0.75 mm (0.029 inch).

Use Tooling (E) to check the end play of turbine shaft (11). The maximum end play that is allowed for new parts is 0.09 mm (0.004 inch) to 0.13 mm (0.005 inch). The maximum end play that is allowed for used parts is 0.00 mm (0.00 inch) to 0.17 mm (0.007 inch).

To avoid damage to the turbocharger housing and the turbine shaft, make sure that the turbocharger cartridge does not contact these parts while being removed.
Use two people or use Tooling (A) to install turbocharger cartridge (6) in turbine housing (2). The weight of turbocharger cartridge (6) is approximately 30 kg (66 lb).

Note: Do not bend the locking tabs until the turbocharger is assembled to the engine.
Install bolts (8), locks (9), and clamps (10) on turbine housing (2) .

Install bolts (3), lockwashers (4), and compressor clamp assemblies (5) on compressor housing (1) .End By: Install the turbocharger (low pressure). Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Turbocharger (Low Pressure) - Install".
