Cleanliness is an important factor. Before installation, all parts should be thoroughly cleaned in cleaning fluid. Allow the parts to air dry. Wiping cloths or rags should not be used to dry parts. Lint may be deposited on the parts which may cause later trouble. Inspect all parts. If any parts are worn or damaged, use new parts for replacement. Check the condition of all O-ring seals and of all parts. If any components are worn or damaged, use new parts for replacement. 1. Use the proper equipment to handle bearing cups (1) and (2). Lower the temperature of bearing cups (1) and (2) to -62° 10°C (-80° 50°F). Install bearing cups (1) and (2) into the rear frame. 2. Install O-ring seal (3) on spacer (6). Install spacer (6) on the spindle.3. Install the O-ring seal and the lip seal on cover (4) as shown. Install cover (4), 12 bolts (7) and the washers on the oscillating hitch. Position cover (4) on spacer (6). 4. Pack bearing cone (5) with grease prior to installation. Use two people and position bearing cone (5), as shown. The weight of bearing cone (5) is 40 kg (88 lb).5. Use two people to install the components of Tooling (D). The weight of Tooling (A) is 35 kg (77 lb).6. Attach a hoist and a suitable lifting sling to Tooling (E). Install Tooling (E), as shown. The weight of Tooling (B) is 29.5 kg (65 lb).7. Use Tooling (D) and Tooling (E) to install spacer (6), cover (4) and bearing cone (5). Ensure that the O-ring seal on spacer (6) seals against the oscillating hitch. 8. Install Tooling (C) on the front frame, as shown. Attach a hoist and suitable lifting chains to Tooling (C).9. Position a suitable towing machine at the front of the front frame. Attach the towing machine to the front frame with a suitable towing bar.10. Disengage the parking brake on the front wheels. Refer to Operation & Maintenance Manual, "Parking Brake Manual Release" for the machine that is being serviced. 11. Remove Tooling (A) from under the front frame. Remove the blocks from the wheels. Use the towing machine and the hoist to push the front frame into the rear frame until the oscillating spindle is fully inserted. Use additional observers when attaching the machine. 12. Apply 5P-3931 Anti-Seize Compound to the threads of bolts (7) prior to assembly. Install bolts (7) that fasten cover (4). Tighten bolts (7) to a torque of 115 10 N*m (100 7 lb ft).13. Pack bearing cone (8) with grease. Install the bearing cone on the spindle. The weight of the bearing cone (8) is 40 kg (88 lb).14. Install retainer (9) without any shims. Adjust the oscillating hitch bearings. Refer to Specifications, "Oscillating Hitch - Procedure to Adjust the Oscillating Hitch Bearings" for the machine that is being serviced.15. When the adjustment procedure is completed, install retainer (9) with the correct amount of shims. Apply
