Personal injury can result if the machine moves while testing the parking brake.If the machine begins to move during the test, reduce the engine speed immediately and apply the service brakes.
If the machine moved while testing the parking brake, contact your Caterpillar dealer.Have the dealer inspect and repair the parking brake components as required before returning the machine to operation.
Machine Preparation
Test the parking brakes on a dry, level surface.
Check the area around the machine. Make sure that the machine is clear of personnel and clear of obstacles.

Make sure that the steering frame lock is in the STORED position. Testing Procedure
Fasten the seat belt before testing the parking brakes. Note: If the machine begins to move during the test, reduce the engine speed immediately and engage the parking brake.
Start the engine. Make sure that the autoshift control is in the off position.
Raise the implement slightly.
Make sure that the controlled rimpull percentage is at 100%.
For the 834H, move the transmission control to the THIRD speed forward. For the 836H, move the transmission control to the SECOND speed forward. Note: The procedure to shift the transmission into gear with the parking brake engaged. First shift the transmission into gear. Then shift the transmission into Neutral. Then shift the transmission back into gear.The parking brake indicator light should come on and the warning alarm should sound.
Engage the parking brake.
For the 834H, gradually increase the engine speed to high idle. For the 836H, gradually increase the engine speed to 1000 rpm. Note: Do not run the engine at high idle for more than five seconds.
The machine should not move.
Reduce engine speed to low idle.
Move the transmission control to the neutral position.
Keep the parking brake engaged.
Lower the implement to the ground.
Stop the engine. Note: If the machine moved during the test, consult your dealer for a brake inspection. Make any necessary repairs before the machine is returned to operation.
